Principal Selection Process for F.A. Day Middle School

  • A Selection Advisory Committee (SAC) will be formed in January; it will include five (5) staff members, one (1) coordinator, one (1) Assistant Principal, two (2) parents, one (1) middle school assistant principal, the Assistant Superintendant for Secondary Education, and an NPS Human Resource Administrator.  Taking into account F.A. Day's needs, the committee will craft interview questions, choose candidates for interviews, and recommend finalists to Superintendent Fleishman, who will ultimately appoint the new principal. The time commitment for the SAC will be as follows:

    • January 4,  3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

    • January 10, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

    • January 13, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

  • Candidates who advance to the second round will visit a Newton middle school (TBD) during the week of January 25-26, where they will observe classes and be assessed on their knowledge of classroom instruction and ability to reflect on complex leadership situations.    

  • Each finalist will be invited to F.A. Day for a day during the week of February 9-10. The visits will include meetings with teachers, and a small-group meeting with four to six parents, and a large group meeting open to all parents,  There will be opportunities to ask questions of the candidates and see how they respond.  

  • Finally, reference and background checks will be completed.

The F.A. Day PTO Board will select two F.A. Day parents/guardians for the SAC on the basis of on several factors, including a well-balanced representation across different constituencies at F.A. Day. Please know that there are ways to be involved in the process should you not be able to serve on the SAC.
